Between lessons, someone is listening

You hear a student for half an hour a week. The other six days they practise alone, and a wrong note learned on Tuesday is a habit by the next lesson. Scoreflection listens to those six days: the student opens the piece you set, plays it, and sees every wrong, missed or mistimed note marked on the page they were reading.

This page is for private teachers who want to tell their students about it. It is also honest about what the app will not do for you, because some of that is on purpose.

Giving students the music

Scoreflection works on the student's own score, not on a built-in course, so it fits whatever you are already teaching. If you write or arrange in a notation program, export the piece as MusicXML and send it the way you send anything else. The app imports MusicXML, compressed MXL, MNX and LilyPond, and the format is read from the file itself, so a download without an extension still works. The FAQ covers importing a score and sending one from a computer to a phone.

Piano, guitar and ukulele are supported today. Listeners for bowed strings, woodwind, brass and voice are still in development, so for those students it is a reader with playback for now, not a practice partner. The instruments section keeps that list current.

What the student gets

• Every notehead marked after a run-through: correct, wrong, not played, too short, too long, too soft, too loud.
• A place kept through the road map. Repeats, voltas and a restart in the middle of a bar don't throw the follower off.
• Tempo coaching that separates a recurring rushed beat from an honest drift.
• Audition mode, which plays a piece three times and keeps only the notes that went wrong at least twice, so a list of real weak spots rather than every slip.
• Loops and one-hand practice for the passage that keeps falling apart.

What you will not see, and why

There is no teacher account, no class and no dashboard. Nothing a student plays, and no mark the app gives them, is sent to you, to their school or to us. The listening happens on the student's phone and the results stay there.

That is a deliberate choice. Many students are children, and a practice tool that reports on them is a different thing from one that helps them. If you want to know how the week went, ask. A student may be glad to show you their screen in the lesson, and that should stay their choice rather than homework.

Accounts, and younger students

Reading scores, playback and the tuner need no account. Being listened to and graded is the paid Practice plan, and a plan is tied to an account. For a child, that account is set up by the family, not by the teacher. Please don't create accounts on your students' behalf or collect their sign-in details; the account is between the family and us. The community forum is for members aged 16 and over. The privacy policy has a section written for children, and child safety says how the forum is kept safe.

Feedback, not a grade

The marks are practice feedback for the person playing. They are not an assessment, and Scoreflection is not built or offered for grading, ranking or examining students, by a teacher or by a school. Music schools who would like to work with us are welcome on the page for music schools, on the same terms. The AI transparency page explains why that line matters.

It won't replace you either. The engine hears about 95% of note attacks, and it can tell a student the B was wrong and the bar was rushed. It can't hear tone, posture or whether the phrase meant anything, and it doesn't know why the B keeps going wrong. That part is still the lesson.
